Building the Future: Inspiring the Next Generation with Bedminster Down School

At our core, we believe in opening our doors to the next generation of industry talent. We recently hosted two brilliant Year 10 students from Bedminster Down School for a week of work experience and it was an impactful reminder of exactly why we do what we do.

Our goal for the week was simple: to challenge the stereotype that careers in construction are only about "boots on the ground" and physical labour. We wanted to show them the incredible breadth of roles, skills, and creativity that power our industry behind the scenes.

"Construction is so much more than bricklaying and hard hats. It’s about leadership, creativity, community engagement, and digital innovation."

A Week in the Life: What They Got Up To

Over five fast-paced days, our students dove headfirst into the diverse world of construction management, business, and community development. Their action-packed itinerary included:

  • Interviewing our Managing Director: Gaining first-hand insights into business leadership, strategic decision-making, and what it takes to run a successful company.
  • A Site Visit to Filwood Community Centre: Exploring our "live" project to see community-led construction in action and understand the real-world impact of social-value-driven building.
  • Collaborating Across Departments: Developing critical business skills including practical mathematics, digital design, and public speaking by working closely with our Estimating, Marketing, and Social Value teams.
  • The Grand Finale: Delivering a final presentation to our team on current digital marketing trends in the construction sector. (And they absolutely nailed it!)

Investing in Our Local Community

Providing meaningful, hands-on opportunities like this is central to our commitment to supporting local talent. By bridging the gap between education and employment, we hope to play our part in building a stronger, more diverse future pipeline for the construction industry.

A huge thank you to the students from Bedminster Down School for their hard work, curiosity, and fantastic energy throughout the week. The future of our industry is in very bright hands!
