We are pleased to announce our appointment by Wessex Water Services Limited to lead the comprehensive refurbishment of the Pelican Business Services office in Nailsea. This design and build project focuses on modernising the facility through a series of critical infrastructure upgrades and high-quality aesthetic enhancements. Our scope of work is designed to improve the building’s operational efficiency while creating a contemporary workspace for the Pelican team.

Key Project Scope:

  • Infrastructure & Accessibility: installation of a new lift and high-performance windows to improve both accessibility and energy efficiency.
  • M&E Modernisation: Significant mechanical and electrical upgrades, featuring advanced Mitsubishi heating and cooling systems to ensure optimal climate control and sustainability.
  • Building Fabric: essential roof repairs and upgrades to secure the building’s integrity and further enhance thermal performance.
  • Modern Workspace Design: the delivery of vibrant, functional office accommodation, including a full refurbishment of all WC facilities throughout the building.

Scheduled to commence in early 2026, we look forward to collaborating closely with the Client team and our trust supply chain. Together, we are committed to delivering an exceptional scheme that meets the evolving needs of Wessex Water and the staff at Pelican Business Services. This project reinforces our expertise in the commercial office refurbishment sector and our commitment to delivering sustainable, future-ready workspaces.

At Bray & Slaughter, we believe in the importance of supporting our local community, particularly during the festive season. We are proud to announce the successful conclusion of our annual Christmas food collection in support of The Matthew Tree Project, an organisation dedicated to providing essential relief to vulnerable families.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our staff members, our team successfully gathered a substantial volume of essential items. The donations were recently collected by Michelle, Tina, and Jonathan from The Matthew Tree Project, who expressed their gratitude for the team’s commitment to the cause.

We were delighted to receive a personal note of thanks from Michelle Goodway, Chief Operating Officer at The Matthew Tree Project:

"We wanted to say a huge thank you for your fantastic, generous donations, which weighed an incredible 178 kg. Your support will make a real difference to the families and individuals we work with every day. It is wonderful to work with caring partners who share our commitment to helping the community."

In addition to the physical donations, we were pleased to provide further financial assistance. Utilising a £200 voucher awarded to us by The Coreus Foundation following a charity event earlier this year, we have been able to provide an extra boost to the project’s resources this winter.

Between the 178 kg of food supplies and the additional financial contribution, this initiative highlights what can be achieved through collective action. We are incredibly proud of our staff for their continued dedication to social value and community support.

As we look forward to the year ahead, we remain committed to fostering these vital local partnerships. On behalf of everyone at Bray & Slaughter, we wish our clients, partners, and our communities a safe and prosperous New Year.

At Bray & Slaughter, we believe that a strong team is built on both hard work and shared experiences. To celebrate the conclusion of a productive year, our team of 25 stepped away from the sites and the office to enjoy two days of festive celebrations and community giving.

Day 1: Supporting a Vital Cause

We commenced our festivities by participating in Christmas Jumper Day in support of Save the Children UK. From our head office to our active sites, the team traded their high-vis gear for festive knitwear to raise funds for children in need. It was a privilege to see the entire business unite to support such a meaningful cause, blending holiday spirt with social responsibility.

Day 2: An Evening of Team Building

The celebrations continued the following day with our official Christmas event in Bristol. The team enjoyed a sophisticated three-course meal at Pasture, followed by an energetic afternoon of competitive indoor cricket at Sixes Social Cricket in Millennium Square. The evening concluded with a social gathering at BrewDog providing a great opportunity for the team to unwind and reflect on our collective achievements.

On behalf of everyone at B&S, we would like to wish our clients, partners, and team members a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. We look forward to working with you all in the year ahead.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Llewellyn as our new Project Quantity Surveyor. Joining our Commercial Team, Rob will work under the leadership of Will Bryant to support our growing portfolio of projects.

Rob brings extensive expertise in cost management across both the public and private sectors. His background in navigating complex commercial landscapes makes him a significant addition to the company as we enter a busy period of project delivery.

In his new role, Rob will be responsible for:

  • Financial Control: Managing comprehensive project budgets and ensuring cost certainty.
  • Procurement Excellence: Overseeing supply chain procurement to maintain our high standards of quality and value.
  • Strategic Forecasting: Providing the detailed financial analysis and forecasting essential to project success.

We are delighted to have Rob on board. His technical proficiency and collaborative approach will be instrumental in maintaining the commercial integrity of our schemes.

Following a successful and rapid mobilisation phase, we are pleased to announce that works are officially underway for the complete refurbishment and upgrade of the B12 Neurology Unit at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.

This project represents the latest in a series of complex capital works delivered for the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. Our ongoing partnership with the Trust highlights our team’s specialised expertise in navigating the unique challenges of acute clinical environments and critical care facilities.

Given the sensitive nature of the unit, our delivery strategy is centred on precision and rigorous site management. We are committed to ensuring that these vital upgrades are completed with zero disruption to hospital operations or patient care.

We were honoured to attend the official opening ceremony of the new Yatton Infant School, marking the completion of a vital £5m redevelopment project.

Following our appointment in 2024, our team was tasked with the design and construction of a state-of-the-art replacement facility following the devastating loss of the previous building to fire. Our primary objective was to deliver a robust, future-proof structure that provides a safe, modern, and inspiring learning environment for pupils and staff alike.

The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including Head Teacher Jo Keeble, Dr. Gary Lewis, and Tim Monelle of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP). A highlight of the morning was a memorable performance by the students, followed by the official ribbon-cutting performed by Tessa Munt.

This project’s success is a testament to the dedication of the entire project team, the LSP, and school leadership. We also extend our sincere gratitude to our committed network of design and supply chain partners who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.

The positive impact of the new facility on the school and the wider Yatton community was highlighted by Tim Monelle, Director of Trust Services at the LSP, who commented on the importance of the partnership:

"It was important for us to partner with a local contractor. In the Trust, we believe in the use of a local supply chain—it’s what we do. It was a very good appointment with Bray & Slaughter. A huge pat on the back to Grant Jefferies and the team who did a fantastic job for us."

Our engagement with the school community extends beyond the construction phase. Early in the new year, we look forward to returning to site to install a new 'bug house,' featuring a bespoke design developed by the pupils themselves.

This project reinforces our expertise in the education sector and our commitment to delivering high-quality, resilient infrastructure that serves the community for generations to come.

We were pleased to welcome participants from The Restore Trust’s Sector-Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) to our Filwood Community Centre site for an immersive career insight day.

A core component of our commitment to Social Value is providing clear, accessible pathways into the construction industry. This visit was designed to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the sector, highlighting the diverse range of career opportunities available.

The session was led by our Social Value & EDI Manager, Katie Corbett, who discussed the breadth of roles within the industry and the vital role played by our supply chain.

The participants also gained first-hand perspective from our site leadership team:

  • Project Manager Chris shared his career trajectory, beginning as a bricklayer and progressing into senior management.
  • Site Manager Paul detailed his professional journey from an entry-level position.

Both emphasised that a successful career in construction is built on a foundation of reliability, hard work, and the proactive pursuit of professional development opportunities.

The visit concluded with a guided site tour led by Chris, providing a detailed look at the live Filwood scheme. This offered participants a unique opportunity to see Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) construction in practice and engage in a technical Q&A regarding the building process and modern construction methods.

Huge thanks to Adam Badman and Ellis from O’Neill & Brennan UK, and Alan Bell from The Restore Trust, for their collaboration in organising this impactful visit.
