Following a devastating fire in May 2023, Bray & Slaughter was appointed by the Lighthouse Schools Partnership to lead the reconstruction of Yatton Infant School.
The project involved the design and construction of a modern, resilient educational facility replacing the fire-damaged sections which included:
Structural Reconstruction: A robust steel frame with block and beam floors and a high-performance fully insulated roof.
Educational Facilities: Six state-of-the-art classrooms (Years 1 & 2), group rooms, a new library, and a food technology room.
Specialist Spaces: A dedicated nurture room with a kitchenette and living space, hygiene facilities, and an extended school hall.
External: Creation of a central courtyard connecting the Infant and Junior Schools, with all classrooms designed with direct access to dedicated outdoor living spaces.
During the construction process deliveries were managed to minimise disruption, with a full-time gateman and adherence to specific delivery times which were after school pick-up and drop-off times.
Whilst this project was carried out within a residential area it was essential to communicate with all stakeholders. Local residents were kept informed about the progress, including through newsletter drops, information boards and vision panels in the site hoardings.
There were many ways to collaborate with the school throughout the process including:

In conjunction with Coreus the Project Manager, the collaboration and teamwork have been an exemplar for future projects within the Trust.
